Professional Videography
I’ve made videos professionally in one way or another since 2013. Below, you can see a selection of freelance work, as well as some of the commercials I have produced from my full time position at Softube AB in the last three years.
Softube: Model 84
Softube is a Swedish company that develops and sells software and hardware for the music industry. This is a commercial for their Model 84 Polyphonic Synthesizer, a software emulation of a legendary ’80s synth.
Softube: Amp Room
Amp Room is a platform from Softube that allows the user to build a virtual signal chain for guitar and bass tracks. I think the motion design, footage, and music created using the advertised platform came together quite nicely.
Softube: Tape Echoes
The Tape Echoes plug-in basically wrote its own video concept. With a product so focussed on dirt, repetition, and vintage vibes, this one was a joy to produce.
Softube & Marshall
In addition to commercials, I’ve also produced a number of mini-documentary-style videos for Softube. Here’s a short and sweet one about Softube’s long-standing partnership with Marshall.
Crash Course: Orgels
During my 7th semester studying communication, me and two other students got the opportunity to make a documentary about the annual Schnitger Organ Festival in Groningen. The end product became half educational and half critical. Here you can see the publicly available educational part.
Agritech Nordic 2018
Agritech is an annual conference surrounding agriculture, aquaculture and forestry. Their 2018 edition dealt with ‘the future of protein’, and I got to walk around there, talk to interesting people, and make an aftermovie out of the conference.
Zenitel: Bastø Fosen
Zenitel is an organisation that specializes in critical communications equipment; among which PA, intercom, and radio installations. In this video we explore one of their installations on Norway’s busiest inland ferry route.
Idee zoekt Ondernemer
Idee zoekt ondernemer was an initiative of the Hanze University of Applied Sciences, pairing entrepreneurs with students that could help them further develop their ideas. I produced three videos for the initiative, in which three of the chosen entrepreneurs presented their ideas and asked for the students’ help.
Personal Videography
I don’t just make a profession out of videography, but enjoy it in my free time as well. I’ve been creating content on Youtube since late 2012, starting out with a gaming channel, but quickly moving on to more cinematography-based content. Most of what I currently create are videos of the outdoors-y, adventure-y variety, on a channel called Wandellander. I used to also run a language channel called TomCatchesUp, to which I uploaded Dutch Lessons and other related videos.
The Monthly Reviews
To quote my 2015 self: ‘it’s not me reviewing a physical object once a month, it’s literally just me reviewing the month’. I was so eloquent back then. Barring some significant hiatuses, I’ve been working on this series for over six years; every now and then uploading a video looking back at the interesting (usually travel related) stuff I did during a month.
My Beautiful Backyard
I’ve done a few of these ‘My Beautiful Backyard’ videos. Two during my exchange to Halden, Norway, and more recently this one in Linköping, Sweden. They serve as nice reminders of the surroundings I’ve lived in – and as good excuses to just go out and play with my video gear.
Short Summer Stories
Short Summer Stories was a project meant to give myself some videography practice back in 2016. Some of them are a bit weirdly filmed or oddly edited, just for the sake of pushing myself. Story 10 is one of my favorites, and story 20 is probably the most experimental.
Dutch Lessons
For a while I enjoyed creating educational and language-learning-related content on a secondary channel, while I was tutoring Dutch on iTalki. This is a playlist of the Dutch lessons I created while the channel was active.
